We’re pleased to share that a £3,000 grant has been awarded by the Lancashire Health Visiting and School Nursing Team to support a new after-school programme for children and young people of primary and secondary school age.
The funding will help us create a fun and welcoming programme that brings together arts and crafts, physical activities, food, and games. We’ll be getting everything ready by bringing in staff and volunteers, making sure everyone is properly trained, and planning sessions that are safe, engaging, and enjoyable for all.
We’ll be working closely with schools, families, and carers to spread the word, with a focus on making sure that children and families who may need extra support are able to take part. As children join, we’ll also gather some basic information to help us understand how the programme is making a difference.
Each week, the after-school sessions will give children a chance to try new activities, make friends, and build confidence in a relaxed and friendly space. A big part of the programme will be sharing freshly cooked, homemade meals together, creating time for everyone to connect. There will also be opportunities for children to get involved in cooking and baking, helping them discover new foods and learn useful skills.
Older children and young people will be encouraged to get involved as volunteers. They’ll have the chance to learn new skills like helping run activities, preparing food, and supporting younger children, while also building confidence and leadership experience. We’ll also support young people to explore creative ideas through things like printing and design, and introduce simple skills like teamwork, planning, and managing money.
